TANGO

A dance that developed in the port cities of the Río de la Plata, primarily Buenos Aires, Tango's roots are African rhythms similar to those brought to New Orleans, the Caribbean, and Peru. The improvisational opportunity is high thanks to the deceptively simple and complex connection of partners. The faster or uptempo version of the dance is called "Milonga."

Milonga is also the term used for an entire evening of gathering and dancing which includes Tango, Milonga, and from time to time other variations or dance styles.
